Utsjoki is Reindeer country. The Sami people, who are the indigenous people of Lapland, have been in this area for many thousands of years and they have been doing Reindeer Husbandry for many hundreds of those years. So who better to visit if you want to learn about the Sami and Reindeers? We’ll visit the northern most part of Finland to a Reindeer farmers home. Here you will enter the Reindeer corral and hand feed them lichen, which is a Reindeers natural food that they eat in the wilderness. After the Reindeer feeding, you will enter the warm fire hut where you will hear about the Reindeer farmers way of life and the Sami way of life. You will also sample some local Sami delicacies (mostly meat based…but a vegetarian option is available). After this you can try your hand with a lasso and see if you have what it takes to become a Reindeer farmer yourself!

Please note, This is a real working Reindeer Herder, so when you make the booking, the booking will not process immediately until I am able to confirm it. I will have to contact them and ask if they are available to take visitors that particular day. It could be that he is out in the wilderness working with the Reindeer herd. So go ahead and make the booking below and I will confirm it as soon as possible. Thanks! – Tony
